  • About

For more than 22 years, El Centrito has provided high quality educational and leadership services to the greater Los Angeles area with a focus in Oxnard, Ventura County. El Centrito Family Learning Centers is committed to create a multicultural community of excellence by inspiring children, youth and families to learn, lead and reach their greatest potential. El Centrito's educational and leadership projects, serve 1,500 children, youth and families each year. El Centrito's programs primarily target low-income, immigrant, English Language Learning parents and their students who, because of those demographic characteristics, are more likely to experience isolation and discrimination that compromise opportunities to Professional success. Through a recent board-led process, families, staff and agency leadership discerned four key values that guide the agency's work in our community, including 1) a deep value for community, 2) a high level of commitment to the families we serve and the impact we desire to make, 3) paving the way to success with equal access to opportunity for our families and for each team member to share their thoughts and find respect, and 4) inspiring our families to reach their greatest potential with a sense of empowerment. Beyond serving 1,500 individuals each year, El Centrito Has served more than 25,000 children, youth and parents since opening their doors to the community. The agency has built a reputation for its unique, culturally competent programs and is recognized among community leaders as a model for developing programs that respond to community need and encompass a developmental continuum for best practices in Early Childhood Education, integrated STEAM curriculum, and parent engagement. El Centrito?s results-based programs, combined with recognized expertise at delivering strong educational and leadership programs, allow El Centrito to leverage and expand its impact by capitalizing on opportunities for community-driven program expansion. Through a dynamic process that continually elicits community feedback, El Centrito has constructed a pipeline of educational support services that carry children and families from infancy through higher education, and includes the following programs: 1) Comprehensive Early Childhood Education; 2) The After School & Summer STEAM Academy; 3) The Mis Padres y Yo parent education program for parents with young children; and 4) two parent leadership programs Padres Promotores and AsociaciĆ³n de Padres that build leadership capacity and knowledge that empower parents to advocate on behalf of their children. Our motto, Where Families Thrive Together anchors our success and captures our commitment to provide holistic opportunities for families to strive for their greatest potential.
